In this paper, the SIRIS technique and a similar method using laser ablation to replace ion-beam sputtering were used to determine the concentration of boron as a function of position in various tissue slices, such as rat kidney infused with a boron-containing compound. The results demonstrated that SIRIS is capable of imaging elemental concentrations in biological tissues with extremely high resolution and sensitivity.
