Imaging Insulators

"Imaging of Boron in Tissue at the Cellular Level for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy", Heinrich F. Arlinghaus and Michael T. Spaar, Atom Sciences, Inc., and R. C. Switzer and G. W. Kabalka, University of Tennessee, Analytical Chemistry 69 #16, 3169-3176, August 15, 1997.

In this paper, the SIRIS technique and a similar method using laser ablation to replace ion-beam sputtering were used to determine the concentration of boron as a function of position in various tissue slices, such as rat kidney infused with a boron-containing compound. The results demonstrated that SIRIS is capable of imaging elemental concentrations in biological tissues with extremely high resolution and sensitivity. Supported in part by the National Institutes of Health under Contract 1 R43 CA54627-01 and the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract DE-FG05-91ER81264.
